Abu Fuoad was only at the market for minutes - there to buy food for celebrating Ramadan. Whilst there, he heard an explosion; a missile from a plane. Though disconcerting this was not uncommon and he started to make his way home. He had no idea what was waiting for him. His house was completely destroyed. The Civil Defence had taken his wife and his two daughters. And his five year old son, Fuoad, had died from the shelling. In despair, and fearful of the continued shelling, Abu Fuoad fled from the ruins of his home.
Abu Fuoad’s story is of many shared with us by the newly displaced and incredibly vulnerable people in Northwestern Syria. They need our help.
Thousands of families have fled bombings, arriving in areas already struggling to deal with so many displaced people. The lucky ones have found shelter in old buildings but many are out in the open, with no means to cook food and with little or no access to buying ingredients.
We have worked before on swiftly identifying and providing the most vulnerable families with food. Now we are ready to once again act fast to ensure that these families have at least one hot, nutritious meal per day.
£20,000 will allow 1,050 of the most vulnerable people in Northwest Syria to receive a hot meal for 12 days - totalling 12,600 meals. Can you help us feed vulnerable people like Abu?
Meals cost just £1.50, meaning we can feed 1,050 people for 12 days with your help.
With your help, we will provide 210 families with one nutritious meal per day whilst working with the newly displaced communities and host communities to provide a more durable solution for sustainable food programming - prioritising children who require specialized food assistance and are at risk of malnutrition will be referred to a medical facility or mobile health or nutrition service.
Access to food is not just a human right but mealtimes also play an important role in family life, and many of the displaced families were hoping to enjoy eating together at this important time of Ramadan. Instead, they have fled for their lives as bombs rained down on them. Help us to bring back a semblance of calm and normalcy by providing food for them during some of the hardest times of their lives.
Please contribute to our campaign so that vulnerable families fleeing war will have one hot meal per day.
What you need to know
Our funding target:
With over 152,000 newly displaced people to support, we are working to provide aid to as many people as they possibly can with your generous support. The situation on the ground will change day to day and as such we will keep the funding above our initial target if the global community is willing to support our partners' work. Should we raise more money than is needed for this emergency appeal, we will use ours and our partners’ expertise to discern how to reallocate any additional funds where it is needed most. In this case, contributors will be informed where this money is being spent and why.
Distribution of funds:
Due to the urgency, CanDo has agreed to release funds directly to partners for the specific emergency on a weekly basis based on assessment of needs.
How else can I help:
There are many ways you can use your voice to make a difference:
