Story

We are Ghiras Al Nahda - a non-government, non-profit organisation working inside Syria and Turkey.

People in our communities have been suffering constantly for the last seven years.

They have been forced out of their beloved homes and lands where their childhood memories were made. They are living in camps with thousands of others, where they lack even the most basic personal care and household items.

One of our volunteers, Ahmad, visits camps in the Al Mara district. He told us how he met Sara, who was washing clothes for her brothers in a bowl with dirty water and no washing liquid. The water was freezing, so Sara’s little hands had become cracked and sore. She told Ahmad about the things she had left behind at home when she fled with her family - her pink bed, toys, a comb, a mirror. Her eyes filled with tears as she remembered her friends and the fun they used to have playing together.

Sara now lives in a tent without even the most basic amenities. She wakes up in the night to her brothers crying. They are infected with lice and have scabies - the continuous scratching causes bleeding.

Every morning, Sara and her brothers wash their hair and clothes with water, hoping that this will ease their suffering. Sara and her brothers are not alone; almost 2,500 children are living in these camps under dangerous conditions and need our help.

Our urgent campaign will provide 814 families with clean living kits to help them avoid deadly diseases and live with dignity. The kits include household and personal items, as well as information and guidance on preventative health measures. We don’t have access to any other funding, so you are our only option for securing what we need to help children like Sara.

Sara and the other children are waiting for your donation. Please help them.

Dear candoers

Merry Christmas!
What amazing your efforts are! Our campaign increased rapidly because of you! We need only 18% to hit the target!
Many thanks for you from our children in the camps and our volunteers.

Hello Great Candoers,

We are really grateful to your support. Now, we started the second week where our friends and supporters are working hard with us to achieve the target. We have reached 51% and will continue with your support till we hit 100%. Your support could be the difference as we’ve only got five weeks to get to that all-important 100% - we can’t wait to see what you and the rest of the community can do!

The project's impact in just one story...

These kits didn’t just include specialist items like sulphur soap to prevent scabies and lice shampoo but also many items that most people simply take for granted, but return dignity and independence to people. “This toothbrush will be my mothers, this is mine - my brother prefers red and my sister prefers yellow. I will brush my teeth every morning and before sleep” says one smiling little boy before he sets about laying out the contents of his family’s kit with his friends to spell out some words …’
