Independent Doctors Association

The Independent Doctors Association (IDA) sets out to reconstruct, build and improve healthcare provisions to Syrians impacted by the ongoing conflict. It was founded in 2012 by a medical committee of Syrian doctors from Aleppo, in response to the healthcare vacuum created in areas outside of government control in Northern Syria.

The association is now registered as an NGO in Turkey. This helped it to strengthen its response to the badly-affected population of Aleppo, in coordination with cross-border humanitarian actors in Turkey. By the end of 2016, the IDA had provided health services to over one million Syrians. IDA is a member of OCHA, Gaziantep and a member of the NGO forum.
